<p>野生下でのオランウータンの出産間隔は6~9年であり、陸上棲哺乳類では最長である。オランウータンは2種3亜種に分類されているが、種および亜種によって出産間隔が異なっている(スマトラ:9年、ボルネオ:6~7年)。スマトラ島は火山性で栄養豊富な土壌である為、非火山性土壌のボルネオ島よりも果実生産量が高く、オラウータンの栄養状態が良いと言われている。このことからオランウータンでは栄養状態が良い(死亡率が低い)環境であれば、出産間隔が長くなる、という仮説が提唱されている。本発表では、最も栄養状...
