Consisting of plentiful single-bond connections, versatile coordination bonds and weak supramolecular interactions, and open-framework structures, porous coordination polymers (or metal-organic frameworks) can show structural flexibility much larger than conventional solid materials. In response to external chemical and physical stimuli, these network materials can show various types of structural transformations and dynamic behaviors that can be readily visualized by diffraction techniques or characterized by spectroscopy and other means. Moreover, dynamic behaviors of these materials can show advantages toward related applications (e.g., storage, separation, and sensing).
