I experienced physical therapy for a treatment of orthopedics disease, neurological disease and many internal diseases such as a heart disease, respiratory disease, diabetes mellitus in a university hospital from April 2000 to March 2006. Moreover, I conducted a research about promotion of daily physical activity as a graduate school student while I worked at a university hospital. From April 2006 to the present, I am educating students learning physical therapy as a university teacher. The current specialty is Physical Therapy for Diabetes Mellitus, Health Promotion and Occupational Health.
In Japan, lifestyle-related NCDs (e.g. type 2 diabetes mellitus) increase year by year.
Now, Japanese population is 127,000,000 people, and there is possibility approximately 20% of population are diabetes or pre-diabetes. Most of diabetes patient have motor skills disorder by diabetic polyneuropathy. However, motor skills disorder is not clarified in a Japanese diabetes patient. I am conducting research for motor skills disorder of patient with diabetes mellitus. The Japanese society of physical therapy in diabetes mellitus was established as an official branch of the Japanese Physical Therapy Association in 2013. I am president in this society.
Low back pain is a prescribed industrial disease to lead to closure most in Japan. We developed an exclusive web system, and we are conducting research on a lumbago prevention effect of a worker by email guidance with this system. About 80% of Japanese physical therapist work in a hospital and a senior citizens health facilities. The main role of a physical therapist is a treatment of a patient, in Japan. The Japanese physical therapist cannot engage in a health problem of a worker, because there is a problem of a law. As well as the lumbago control, intervention of a physical therapist is important for the prevention of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
We are acting to improve these situation. I established Japanese Occupational Health Workshop with colleague in 2011, and I am vice-chairman. I believe that our activity is useful for health care of a worker.
