We developed an identification method concerning the geographic origin of wheat grain based on its trace element concentrations and heavy element isotopic ratios by means of high-resolution inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. Wheat samples collected from three origins (Australia, North America and Japan) were characterized by 9 parameters (concentrations of Rb, Sr, Mo, Ba, Mn, Co, Zn and Se, and Sr-87/Sr-86). In addition, eastern or western Australian wheat and the others could be accurately identified by 4 parameters (concentrations of Rb, Sr and Ba, and Sr-87/Sr-86) regardless of the production year.
