Profile

Shin-ichi Tanabe, B.Arch., M.Sc., Ph.D. is a professor at the Department of Architecture, Waseda University, Japan. He is an expert in the fields of indoor air quality, thermal comfort, and energy. He graduated from the Department of Architecture, Waseda University in 1982. He stayed at Technical University of Denmark during 1984-1986 and at University of California, Berkeley during 1992-1993 and at Lawrence National Laboratory (LBNL) during 1997. He is a Fellow Member of American Society of Heating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). He was immediately past vice President of Architectural Institute of Japan (AIJ). Also, he is a Chair of ISO/TC146/SC6 (Indoor Air). He is a vice President of Society of Heating and Air-conditioning and Sanitary Engineers (SHASE), Japan.

He received Ralph. G. Nevins Award from ASHRE in 1989. Technical Award, Society of Heating, Air Conditioning, and Sanitary Engineers, Japan. Prize of Research from Architectural Institute of Japan in 2002. He received the Pettenkofer award, which is the ISIAQ Academy's highest award in 2016.
