We are developing vibrational power generator using iron-based magnetostrictive material (Galfenol) utilized as power supply for wireless sensor module of automobile. The generator consisting of Galfenol plate wound with coil, yoke and magnet features simple, small, highly robust and high power output. However, it has high efficiency only under resonance, thus provides poor performance under vibration of automobile including various frequency components. Here, we examine the power generation characteristic under simulated vibration of automobile engine as reproducing measured acceleration data. The resonant frequency of the generator was set 470 Hz almost correspondent with the peak frequency of the vibration. The peak power of 29.9 μW was observed and the voltage varied with time. Therefore, the output voltage of the generator should be increased with wide frequency bandwidth for practical usage.
