The structural characteristics of TiO2 (anatase) nanocrystals covered with bis/(4,4'-carboxy-2,2'-bipyridine) (thiocyanoto)/ ruthenium (II) molecule, known as Gratzel dye being developed for dye-sensitized solar cell were investigated by means of cryo-transmission electron microscopy (cryo-TEM) and elemental mapping with an energy-filtering TEM. The Gratzel dye is uniformly adsorbed on TiO2 particles as non-crystalline phase with almost monolayer thickness.
