The term crystal generally evokes thoughts of hard and stable materials like diamond and quartz that are distinct from liquids and polymers. On the other hand, soft crystals respond to gentle stimuli such as vapor exposure and rubbing but maintain their structural order and exhibit remarkable visual changes in their shape, color, and luminescence. My research targets are 1) the development of soft crystals through molecular design and synthesis based on the intermolecular interactions such as metal-metal interactions, π-π interactions, and hydrogen bonds of metal complexes, and 2) the deep understanding of the mechanism and dynamics of soft crystals through advanced structural and spectroscopic techniques.
