A strategy to directly prepare maltopentaose-block-poly-(N,N-diethylacrylamide), Mal(5)-block-PDEAA, based on the reversible addition fragmentation chain-transfer (RAFT) polymerization technique as a metal-free process is described. Mal(5)-block-PDEAA generated stable nanoaggregates in water with an average hydrodynamic radius (R-h) of 109 nm by heating to around the human body temperature; thus, the present strategy is useful for the preparation of polymers for biomedical applications.
