I was intrigued by several Amish court cases while I was studying the triglossia society of the Amish (Pennsylvania German, High German and English) in North America. I noticed in Amish case documents that legal language is quite different from ordinary English language. This is the start of my research interest on law and language. I have been working the characteristics of legal language as well as the discourse analysis of lay and legal experts. I have written several expert opinions on language issues.
