Coniferyl alcohol was dehydrogenatively polymerized in the presence of polyoses by the action of peroxidase in the presence of H2O2. Binding site analysis of the resulting synthetic dehydrogenation polymer-carbohydrate complexes by 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone oxidation indicated that acetylglucomannan is bound via ether linkages to the synthetic lignin predominantly at C-6 of hexose moieties while glucuronoxylan is linked at C-2 and C-3 positions of the xylan chain in a similar manner.
