Profile

The main research focus has been for many years on "corporations and development," though theoretical frameworks shifted from Sociology of Economic Development (70s and 80s) to Institutional Economics and Economic Sociology (90s and 2000s). In the 70s and 80s, I conducted research on: (1)"The Multinaitonals and Development Policies in Indonesia and the Phlippines" (several journal articles published) and (2)"Japanese Semiconductor Industry Development and Technology Supporting System" (a book in 1994). In the 1990s and 2000s, I did research on (3)"Japanese Economic Development and the National System of Production" (a few journal articles); (4) "Policy and Institutional Priorities for Industrial Technology Development" (a book in 1999); (5) "Competitive-Cum-Cooperative Interfirm Relatiosn and Dynamics in Japanese Semiconductor Industry" (a book in 2000); and (6) Technology Innovation in Japan's High-Tech Industries: Creativity and Innovativeness in Continuity" (a book in 2006). Present projects are (7) "The Influence of Socio-Economic Institutions on the Risk Recognition of Entrepreneurs: Cases of Japan's High-Tech Industries," and (8) "Poverty Alleviating Business Activities (Base of the Pyramid (BOP): Theories and Business Models."
