The purpose of this study was to examine a measuring method for empathetic understanding as an expression of technological competency, and a foundation of caring in nursing. Empathic understanding competency can be objectively evaluated. This measuring method is dependent upon the development of "sensibility estimation technique" to measure technological competency by intentionally knowing others as "sensitive beings." The measuring method for empathetic understanding can be instituted using or with the following examples, electroencephalography, emotion recognition, and natural language processing. The need for methodological triangulation is discussed.
