A statistical evaluation indicates that the management style of a university, whether national or private, is clearly an important factor in influencing the organization of serials work in Japanese university libraries.
National university libraries tend to follow conventional form of departmentalization. On the other hand, private university libraries regard departmentalization more flexibly in establishing their own unique serials departments.
