Nb-Ti alloy is composed two elements, niobium and titanium, which have extremely low cytotoxicity, and has excellent corrosion resistance. Moreover, Nb-Ti alloy has a Young's modulus similar to that of human bone, and so is suitable as an implant material. There has been no research on the cutting of Nb-Ti alloys, and the processing characteristics of Nb-Ti alloys have not yet been clarified. In this study, the influences of tool material and cutting speed on tool life were investigated by milling of Nb-Ti alloy using a small ball end mill tool.
