Profile

Silicon is ubiquitous in semiconductor technology. The diamond structure Si (d-Si) is the most stable and is an indirect bandgap semiconductor, which is not suitable for light emission and light absorption. Allotropes of Si are still important and attractive subjects from industrial as well as fundamental point of view. Si clathrate is an allotrope of Si (allo-Si) which possesses a direct bandgap of 1.8 eV, which is more applicable to photoelectric devices. However, the device based on the direct-gap-allo-Si has not been achieved. The aim of our research is to investigate and develop such the new materials of group IV elements as well as Si.
