In order to characterize the magnetic state at high pressure, anisotropic susceptibilities, chi(a), chi(b) and chi(c) were measured up to 1.8 GPa in PrCu2, which seems to exhibit a pressure-induced Van Vleck paramagent-to-antiferromagnet transition at 1.2 GPa. It is speculated that the ordered 4f-moments lie in the b-plane in the pressure-induced magnetic state. Remarkable pressure-effects on susceptibility are observed in the b-plane, as indicated in the co-operative Jahn-Teller effect and in the metamagnetism under high field. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V.
