Recurrent laryngeal nerve paralysis after laparoscopic surgery

Objective To present a case of recurrent laryngeal nerve paralysis after laparoscopic surgery.
Subject A 26-year-old nulligravid woman.
Intervention The patient underwent laparoscopic left ovarian cystectomy and myomectomy under general anaesthesia. A few hours later, she complained of throat discomfort and hoarseness. Indirect laryngoscopy showed an immobile left vocal cord. The hoarseness continued for 4 weeks.
Conclusion Recurrent laryngeal nerve paralysis might present as a complication of laparoscopic surgery under general anaesthesia.
