大気は微量のアンモニア(NH3)を含む。その濃度は平均的に数ppb(v/v)と亜酸化窒素(約320ppb)の約100分の1の低さである(1ppbは0.62μg-N/m3(0℃、1013hPa))。しかし、NH3濃度が低いのは、大気中の滞留時間が短い結果であり、大気を介した循環量、すなわち、地表から発生し、大気中を移動し、そして、大気から地表へと沈着する量は決して小さくない。むしろ、NH3の全球発生量は窒素酸化物よりも多く、NH3は大気由来の窒素負荷の大部分を占める。NH3の80%が人為起源...
