We investigate the S=1 frustrated antiferromagnetic quantum spin chain in magnetic field, using numerical exact diagonalization of finite-size clusters. The calculated critical exponents of the spin correlation functions indicate that the incommensurate spin correlation parallel to the external field can be stronger than the transverse antiferromagnetic one for some intermediate fields. When such an incommensurate correlation is dominant, the quasi-1D system with finite interchain interactions should exhibit long-range incommensurate order. We also discuss a possible mechanism for the recently observed field-induced phase of NDMAP within this framework.
