鈴木 信弘

Dr. Nobuhiro SUZUKI received his M.S. degree in phytopathology in 1985 and his Ph.D. degree in virology in 1989 from Tohoku University. Dr. Suzuki currently serves as a full professor at the Innovation Center for Future Agricultural Production and Food Industry, Graduate School of Agricultural Science, Tohoku University, and as an editor or editorial board member of Virus Research, Frontiers in Virology, mBio, Biology, and Journal of Virology. He has also served as a guest editor for PLoS Pathogens and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

The Suzuki Laboratory (Neovirology Laboratory) focuses on the characterization of diverse viruses infecting phytopathogenic fungi and on elucidating their interactions with their hosts. Recent achievements include the discovery of a neo-virus lifestyle exhibited by both a positive-sense single-stranded RNA virus and an unrelated double-stranded RNA virus in a plant-pathogenic fungus. Prior to moving to Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, Dr. Suzuki served for 25 years as a professor and associate professor at the Institute of Plant Science and Resources (formerly the Institute of Plant Sciences and BioResources), Okayama University, beginning in 2001. Before joining Okayama University, he was a visiting fellow at the Center for Agricultural Biotechnology, University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute, from 1997 to 2001, where he studied the molecular biology of hypoviruses in the laboratory of Donald L. Nuss. Prior to his stay at UMBI, he served as an assistant professor and later as a lecturer at the Biotechnology Institute of the Akita Prefectural College of Agriculture from 1988 to 1998, where he conducted research on the molecular characterization of rice dwarf phytoreovirus, a member of the family Reoviridae. He has received awards from the Phytopathological Society of Japan and the Japanese Society for Virology in recognition of his outstanding contributions to plant virology.
