Appearance of ferromagnetism induced by proximity effect and exchange enhancement in multilayer consisting of antiferromagnetic NiO and paramagnetic Pd

The Pd metal in the multilayer consisting of NiO and Pd exhibits ferromagnetism, due to the proximity effect between NiO and Pd, and has ferromagnetic order at distances greater than 35 Angstrom from the interface. The magnetic moment of Pd atom at the interface is 0.59 mu(B)/Pd and decreases with increasing distance from the NiO layer.
