Profile

Prof. Roy is an environmentalist who majored in several fields of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering: Soil and Water Conservation, Irrigation and Drainage etc. He did his graduate studies at Yamaguchi University (Master degree) and The United Graduate School of Tottori University (Ph.D. degree) in Japan and gained experience working with several research institutes and universities. Prof. Roy has conducted research on different environmental aspects such as desertification, soil erosion, water quality, and watershed management in Japan, China, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, India, USA, and Bangladesh.

本研究では、地下水のヒ素汚染が国土全体に広がっているバングラデシュ国の農村地域において、定期的に現地調査を行い、農村でよくみられる代表的な農作物を採取し、作物体内の各部位(根、茎、葉、実など)のヒ素濃度(総ヒ素量、As(III)、As(V)、MMA、DMA)の状況を調べた。研究結果より、対象地域で日常的に使われているヒ素蓄積度の高い作物種および作物体の各部位、安全作物種・部位を指摘することができ、それぞれの作物の消費・処理方法について貴重なガイドラインを得ることができた。
