日本を含む近現代の広域アジアにおけるヒトの移動性やモノの生産・流通・消費に関する分析を通じて、植民地支配やナショナリズムなどの政治的枠組みの規定性、さらに、それを越えた地域社会の変動や躍動（ダイナミズム）を捉える努力を続けています。実証的な歴史研究から浮かび上がってくる視座を起点として、現代的な問題や事象の理解への接合を試みています。Putting focus on the mobility of human being as well as circulation of goods in wider Asia including Japan, I have been making efforts to illuminate the various effects of colonialism/nationalism and the dynamism of society that transcend it. Starting from perspectives that emerge through empirical historical research, I seek to connect them to the understanding of contemporary issues and phenomena.
