真核生物では、スプライシングによってイントロンがmRNA前駆体からラリアット構造をとって切り出される。不要な配列と考えられてきたイントロンは、じつは単なるjunk(がらくた)RNAではなく、そこに機能的non-coding RNAであるsnoRNAやmiRNAが含まれる場合があり、その産生機構はスプライシングと密接に関連している。また、他のタンパク質コード遺伝子のエクソン内にコードされるmiRNAも存在し、スプライシングとの競合により、RNA分解を通した遺伝子発現調節を行う例も明らかになっ...
