For hexagon socket countersunk head screws, a risk of fracture at the head is considered in
ISO 10642 since the cross sectional area of the head decreases due to the driving socket. This study
aims to clarify the effect of head geometry on its loadability. It was found from tensile test and FE
analysis performed for hexagon socket countersunk head screws with various head (and socket)
configurations that the loadability is much higher than one estimated using Mises stress.
