The new environment sensitive photolabile protecting group, N-carboxymethyl-1-nitrodibenzo[bAthiophen-2-ylamino (CNDT) group, is described. CNDT-caging compound underwent efficient photochemical reaction to produce desired acetic acid in the presence of zwitterionic detergent, CHAPS.
