This study targets the development of a gene transfer device with a micron spike produced based on the self-organization phenomenon of the Fe-25Cr-6Ni alloy. The spiked structure is likened to a "surgical knife", i.e., a novel microinjection device using the spike is proposed. The microinjection which is one of the physical molecular transfer method introducing a membrane-impermeant substance into a cell, although widely used, demands that each cell be injected individually. Our device of this study conquers its low productivity which is the only weak point of the microinjection method. Additionally, the device is able to control an injected volume. © 2009 CBMS.
