Profile

Tarô Adati is a professor of entomology at the Department of International Agricultural Development, Faculty of International Agriculture and Food Studies, Tokyo University of Agriculture in Japan. He obtained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in agriculture from Tohoku University and University of Tokyo, respectively. He has extensive international experience including 3 years in Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers under JICA working at St. Andrew’s College in Ashanti-Mampong and Crops Research Institute in Kumasi, Ghana, 3 years at the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology in Nairobi, Kenya, and 3 years at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture in Kano, Nigeria. His current research focuses on the development and deployment of integrated pest management options against major insect pests in food and industrial crop productions in Japan and several countries in South-East Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa, predominantly using chemical and behavioral ecological approaches. He has been the principal investigator of overseas academic research projects by Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI). He has supervised 10 M.Sc. students (1 ongoing) and approximately 90 undergraduate students. He can easily communicate in English and Japanese (mother tongue).
