ABC NewsRadio's Eleni Psaltis presents Japan in Focus, a new program that takes a close look at significant political and cultural developments in Japan.

This week: Australia and New Zealand successfully move a motion to make scientific whaling more difficult for International Whaling Commission member states and we take a closer look at the national newspaper Asahi's investigative team and why it has been banned from covering nuclear-related stories.

Eleni Psaltis speaks to Atsushi Ishii, an Associate Professor in International relations and sociology of science and technology at the Tohoku University who attended this week's International Whaling Commission meeting in Slovenia; and Martin Fackler, a Research Fellow at the Tokyo-based think-tank Rebuild Japan Initiative Foundation.
