Issei Fujishiro was born in Tokyo in 1960. He received his B.E. and M.E. in information sciences and electronics in 1983 and 1985 both from University of Tsukuba, and his Doctor of Science in information sciences from the University of Tokyo in 1988. Fujishiro started his career as an assistant professor at the University of Tokyo in 1985, and then worked as a faculty member for University of Tsukuba, Ochanomizu University, and Tohoku University, before joining Keio University in 2009, where he is currently a Professor at Department of Information and Computer Science, Faculty of Science and Technology in Yokohama. He was elected as an honorary alumnus from Keio University in 2015. He stayed as a Visiting Professor of Computer Science at the State University of New York, Stony Brook, NY, USA from 1994 to 1995. Since 2020, he has been holding an adjunct position at School of Computer Science and Technology, Hangzhou Dianzi University, China. His research interests include shape representation and modeling paradigm, applied visualization design and provenance management, and smart multi-modal ambient media, and authored 322 academic papers and 90 survey articles and authored/edited 41 books/Proceedings related to these research topics. He received 49 international/domestic awards, including the 16th CG Japan Award in 2017 from the Society for Art and Science (SAS) and the Most Cited Paper Award for the Journal Graphical Models 2004-2006 from Elsevier Science. He served as the President of Institute of Image Electronics Engineers of Japan (IIEEJ) and a Vice President for SAS. He has served on the editorial boards for academic journals, including IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics (1999-2003, 2018 to present), Computers & Graphics (2003-2013), and Visual Informatics (2016 to present). He guest-edited 12 special issues of academic journals, including IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications (Vol. 28, No. 5, 2008 and Vol. 35, No. 6, 2015). He has been served on the steering committee for IEEE SciVis (2015-2020) and IEEE PacificVis (2008-to present). He served as a Program Chair for Volume Graphics 2003/2005, IEEE PacificVis 2008, and ACM VRCAI 2014, and a Paper Chair for IEEE VIS 2018/2019 (SciVis); chaired 29 international conferences, including IEEE SMI 2006, Cyberworlds 2013, IEEE PacificVis 2014, ACM VRCAI 2015, TopoInVis 2017, CG International 2017, and PacificVAST 2018; and served on program committees for 179 international conferences. Fujishiro is currently a member of Science Council of Japan, a fellow of the Japan Federation of Engineering Societies, the President of Visualization Society of Japan, a Board Director for International Information Science Foundation, and a Trustee for CG-ARTS. He is an honorary member of IIEEJ, a fellow of IPSJ (CGVI), a senior member of IEEE (Computer Society/VGTC) and ACM (SIGGRAPH), and a member of Eurographics, Computer Graphics Society, IEICE, VRSJ, and ITE.
