病棟NCMで先駆的な2病院において、杉山らが開発した「栄養ケア・マネジメント業務管理項目」を用いた栄養士業務時間調査を実施し、病棟業務に必要な栄養士数を検討した。その結果、現行の管理栄養士の配置基準や診療報酬基準は、実際の病棟栄養ケア業務に対応したものではないので、新しい配置基準の設置が必要であることが明らかになった。
