This paper investigates the effects of two types of English composition exercises about atudents'future image.One of the two exercises utilizes 'time machine question',an efficient technique used in the solution-focused approach,and the other adopts a free composition style.The present research reveals that both types are effective in enhancing students' motivation to study English and in clarifying what they want to do after graduation.The former type of English composition also evokes more specific and realizable future images.These results suggest the possibility of merging English education and career education.
