本講演は、社会に貢献することにより歯科の重要性を再認識してもらうために何をすべきかを考察したものである。現在、口腔衛生と様々な疾患との関係やオーラルフレイルが取り立たされており、今が「口腔領域から社会貢献」する大きなチャンスである。そのためには分野や領域を跨いだ広い知識と技術を持って複合領域の研究を行っていく必要である。それを踏まえて、我々が今までやってきた生物学的研究、臨床・人類学的研究、材料・工学的研究、複合領域研究を紹介し、さらに今行っている研究や準備中の研究を紹介した。
