TWO-DIMENTIONAL MICROAPERTURE ARRAY FOR ON-DEMAND FORMATION OF HETEROGENEOUS GEL FIBERS

In this paper, we propose the formation of heterogeneous hydrogel fibers of multicomponent using a stainless microfluidic device with 2D arrayed microapertures. The array has 48 microapertures connected to 3D microchannels individually, and multiple injection patterns and gel shapes can be formedby arranging the injection of the Na-alginate and CaCl2 solution at each aperture. We demonstrated gel formation of two component, grid pattern of the cross section, and hollow structures using the single microfluidic aperture device. The 2D microaperture array allows us to form biological fiber structures with a high degree of freedom.
