Prof. Dr. Kenichi Ohkita’s current research interest is in organizational competition, cooperation, and coopetition strategies, such as with complementary products in the Japanese video game market or with international brand licensing in the apparel market. He is also recently gaining interest in researching entrepreneurship and has written book reviews for Asian Entrepreneurship in International Journal of Business and Globalisation and Entrepreneurship in Western Europa in International Small Business Journal. His former research interests are travel agency referral and seasonality in the tourism market, and pseudo-generics and the generic competition paradox in the prescription drug market.

Dr. Ohkita’s research has been published (chronologically) in Managerial and Decision Economics, International Journal of Business Environment, International Journal of Business and Globalisation, Journal of the Japanese and International Economies, World Review of Entrepreneurship, Management and Sustainable Development, and International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Small Business. He has a chapter in Global Opportunities for Entrepreneurial Growth: Coopetition and Knowledge Dynamics within and across Firms. He is on the editorial boards of International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Small Business, International Journal of Business and Globalisation, World Review of Entrepreneurship, Management and Sustainable Development, International Journal of Technology Transfer and Commercialisation, and International Journal of Public Sector Performance Management.

Dr. Ohkita gives undergraduate lectures on ‘Introduction to Management’, ‘Advanced Strategic Management’, and ‘Business Economics’ using concrete cases which are based on former Master’s courses on ‘Strategic Management’ and ‘Marketing Strategy’ from the Yamaguchi University Management of Technology Graduate School of Innovation and Technology Management and also on former Master’s courses on ‘Decision Making Analysis’ and ‘Marketing Management’ from the Kagawa University Graduate School of Management. He also provides a Master’s course on ‘Management Theory’, focusing on marketing strategy in the spring term and strategic management in the fall term. Additionally he provides a doctoral course on the research of ‘Advanced Management Theory’, focusing on the fundamentals of entrepreneurship in the spring term and interdisciplinary entrepreneurship in the fall term, enabling study across disciplines including marketing strategy and strategic management. Dr. Ohkita serves as a dissertation advisor, as such this course may result in a Ph.D.. He intends to show the essence of analysis techniques and theoretical frames, and to support creativity in a learning atmosphere.
