EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON THE COEXISTENCE OF MULTIPLE LIMIT CYCLES FOR COUPLED VAN DER POL OSCILLATORS

This paper provides numerical and experimental data on the coexistence of multiple limit cycles for coupled systems consisting of three van der Pol oscillators. The data were obtained through experiments, modeling, and numerical simulations. For the 53 symmetric coupled oscillator, the simulations showed the coexistence of six stable limit cycles, namely, an in-phase, three 2-in-phase, and two rotating solutions. The experiments using the presented circuit resulted in evidence on the coexistence of 2-in-phase and rotating waves. In contrast, the asymmetric coupled oscillator did not exhibit the coexistence of multiple limit cycles because only one period-doubling solution appeared.
