This paper offers anainitialo approach to examining the potential cpnvergence of broadcasting and telecommunivations in japan.Domestic program production and transmission of terrestrial broadcasting have long been vetically integrated,which results insinsufficient condetions for competition.Oue empiricalresults suggest that,so far as cost dependency is concerned,little evidence can be found to support the existing integarated structure.Imposing a vertica separation between the two functions could thus be a step tpward future cpnvergence.
