ヒトの体温調節に寄与するのはエクリン腺で、その機能はまず原汗を生成した後に電解質を再吸収するという腎と同様の機能を有する。体温調節には交感神経活動が重要な役割を果たし、暑熱時には発汗と血管拡張、寒冷時には血管収縮による放熱調節が重要となる。体温調節を考える上には、時間系を考慮し、神経系による予測制御と灌流系による帰還制御を、合わせ考える必要がある。さらに、認知機能と発汗との間に関連が示されたことで、発汗が認知機能の評価に役立つ可能性が示唆された。(著者抄録)
