International Conference on the Applications of the Moeossbauer Effect

Weathering steels (COR-TEN) were corroded by wet-dry cycles using a splay of salty and acid solution in a laboratory. Corrosion products on weathering steel were analyzed by X-ray diffractometry (XRD) and Moessbauer spectrometry at room and low temperatures. Fine alpha-FeOOH, gamma-FeOOH and gamma-Fe2O3 are fundamentally formed in various atmosphere conditions. beta-FeOOH is additionally formed under the existence of chloride ions, but not formed when sulfate ions are coexisted. Spraying a NaF solution prevents from the progress of corrosion.
