Dimethoxy[2.n]metacyclophanes (n = 2-5) were formylated to produce pseudo-ipso and/or pseudo-ortho dialdehydes. The formyl group was transformed to a cinnamyl group to furnish multi-bridged cyclophanes. © 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd.
