Teruyoshi (Teru) Yanagita, PhD

Teru Yanagita received his Ph.D. degree from Kyushu University in l975. In 1975, Teru joined the faculty of Saga University and then jointed the faculty of Nishikyushu University in 2012. He worked at the University of Virginia School of Medicine as research associate (1980-82) His research area is nutritional biochemistry and lipid metabolism and health. His recent work involves food factors preventing the metabolic syndromes.

Teru has published many peer-reviewed original papers, chapters and review articles and monographs dealing with various aspects o f lipid metabolism and health. He has been a member of the Editorial Board of JSNFS, Lipids in Health and Disease, Medical Science Monitor, and Journal of Ole Science, Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Advisory Board member of ISBAB and European J. of Lipid Science and Technology and others.

Teru has been a member of the Board of Directors of Japan Society of Nutrition and Food Science and he served as Vice-President in 2008-2010. He also had been a member of the Boards of Directors of Japan Society of Oleo Science, Japan Society of Study on Obesity, Japan Society of Atherosclerosis, Japan Society of Lipid Biochemistry, and others.

After starts as Acting Chair of Applied Biological Sciences and also Applied Biochemistry and Food Sciences at Saga University, Teru served as a Director of Research and Innovation Center of Saga University. He was a director of International Student Center in Saga University from April 2009 to 2012. He admitted Nishikyushu University from 2012 and became Director of International Affairs and Dean of School of Health and Nutrition Sciences.

Teru has received a number of honors during his academic career. These include an Academic Research Award 2006 and Saeki Memorial Award 2014 of Japan Society of Nutrition and Food Science. Outstanding Presentation Award of American Oil Chemist's Society (AOCS) in 2004, Excellent and Best Poster Awards of AOCS in 1999, 2003- 2006 and 2008, Best Paper Awards in 2009 (honorarium from International Lecithin & Phospholipid Society and AOCS PL Division) at AOCS , and BBB 2014. He was awarded on Top-cited article 2008-2010 in Prog. Lipid Res.

Teru served as an organizer of International Symposiums at AOCS, ISF, Asian Congress of Nutrition2011, 2015 and also International Congress of Nutritionn2013. Furthermore, he serves on the Review Board of the Japan Science and Technology Agency and Scientific advisor of King Abdulaziz University. He received Professor Honorable from Ancash National University of Peru Republic in 2002 and. Saga University in 2012. He is a visiting professor of Yuanpei University, Taiwan, Saga University and The University of Ryukyu, Japan.
