Because of the excellent biocompatibility of titanium, its use for various dental prostheses fabricated using a lost wax method is increasing. Up to now, pure titanium (commercially pure titanium, CP Ti, containing minimal amounts of alloying elements) has often been used for this application. Since the strengths of CP Ti are limited, stronger alloys, such as Ti-6Al-4V or Ti-6Al-7Nb, have been used. Although not totally substantiated, biocompatibility issues with the alloying elements, including Al and V, were of concern. Using titanium alloys with elements having fewer biocompatibility problems is a solution. The proposed study investigates the feasibility of casting partial denture frameworks using biocompatible titanium alloys.
