This study attempted to manifest spatial structure of agricultural villages in Japan, surveying cherry trees in Shirataka-town, Yamagata Prefecture as a case study. We focused on the style of planting and locations of cherry trees which have been existing there over 100 years and analyzed each characteristics. This study found out that most of cherry trees are planted on the small hills in lowlands, not as groups but as singles. Location's features are grouped into 3 categories; (1) Gentle slope (2) Small Hills and (3) Hillsides of prominent ridges, and each group is found out to be located near the villages, rice fields, or roads. As a conclusion, locations of cherry trees are found out to be selected allowing for the following 3 elements; (1) Emphasis of spatial relationship with surrounding landform or topographic items, such as mountains, topographical characteristics, villages or roads, (2) Visibility from villages or rice field and (3)Prospects from cherry trees.
