Lipoma of the colon is a rare disease in Japan. We have experienced two cases of lipoma of the colon. Case 1 was a 47-year-old woman. She took a medical examination by colonoscopy because of occult blood into the stool. It revealed a submucosal tumor of the transverse colon, it was about 5 cm in diameter. We isolated it, found that it was lipoma by colonoscopy and CT scanning, and preformed partial resection of the transverse colon. Case 2 was a 56-year-old man. He took a medical examination by colonoscopy because screening of the colon cancer which revealed a penduculated polyp of the transverse colon of about 2 cm in diameter. We isolated it, found that it was lipoma by colonoscopy and barium enema examination, and excised it by endoscopic polypectomy. In both cases, the pathologic diagnosis was benign submucosal lipoma of the colon. Lipoma is a benign disease, so treatment is hoped to cause minimal damage. In these cases, we could diagnose it preoperatively and could take suitable treatments.
