In the presence of BiCl3-Zn(0), nearly equimolar amts. of allyl bromide reacted with carbonyl compds. contg. a carboxyl group to afford the corresponding homoallylic alcs. having a carboxyl group or the intramol. dehydrated lactones in good yields.
