My chapter is about the teaching of Jesus on the subject of church authority. He taught his disciples not to adopt the common features of Jewish religious leadership of his time (the exaltation of the Rabbis) and also not to imitate the practices of political leadership in the contemporary non-Jewish world. Instead, he urged an egalitarian approach emphasizing common Christian brotherhood, which contrasts sharply with most contemporary practices of church leadership.
