愛媛県1946年12月16日生。愛媛県立松山南高等学校卒(1965)、愛媛大学工学部電気工学科卒(1969)、大阪府立大学大学院工学研究科修士課程電子工学専攻修了(1971)、同博士課程修了工学博士(1974)、徳島大学工学部情報工学科助手(1974)、講師(1975)、助教授(1980)、同知能情報工学科教授(1988)を経て,大阪府立大学工学部情報工学科教授(1995)、同大学院工学研究科教授定年退職(2010)、大阪府立大学名誉教授、大阪工業大学工学部電子情報通信工学科特任教授(2010)を経て、同大学ロボテックス＆デザイン工学部客員教授(2017)、その後、2019年4月から広島大学 デジタルものづくり教育研究センター 特任教授となり、現在に至る。
