Professor of Journalism of the Graduate School of Journalism and Media (GSJM) at the Nihon University, Tokyo, Japan. GSJM is the first independent graduate school of journalism in Japan and IJ&MS has conducted research projects concerning Japanese journalism and its education. Prof. Oi was President of the Japan Society for Studies in Journalism and Mass Communication (JSSJMC), and also trustee of the Newspaper Foundation for Education & Culture, operating NEWSPARK (the Japan Newspaper Museum). He directed a survey in journalism and media education carried out by JSSJMC and founded the research division of Journalism Education at JSSJMC during his presidency. His teaching and research interests include normative theory of journalism, journalism history, and principle of journalistic objectivity. He has published a number of book chapters and articles in academic journals, including The Global Journalist in the 21st Century edited by D. E. Weaver and L. Willnat (Routledge).
