1963年，大阪府に生まれ，幼少時の一部をアメリカとドイツで過ごす。1年浪人の後に京都府立医科大学に入学し，1989年（平成元年）に卒業，同放射線科入局。1991年，聖マリアンナ医科大学へ国内留学。1994年ECFMGライセンス取得後に4年間米国留学（メリーランド大学，ロチェスター大学，トロント小児病院，ハーバード大学MGH），1998年に帰国し母校で修練医，助手，講師を経て2012年に同大学の教授となる。
